A very warm welcome to the County of Kent! A journey around kent with its unique atmosphere and wealth of historic buildings makes this county a delight to explore. It is steeped in history and heritage from pre- Roman times right through to exciting contemporary developments about to open in 2011. Part of what is on offer includes an exceptional range of Castles and homes, with stunning architecture and containing wonderful collections of art, tapestries, furniture, porcelain, armour and beautiful gardens. Each one individual with its own fascinating tales to tell.
We have a beautiful coastline and countryside reflecting a terrific range of terrain from downs to river valleys, from the white chalk clffs of Dover to gentle farmland meadows and orchards. We have a literary heritage second to none, with Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Joseph Conrad, Ian Fleming and plenty to suit younger tastes with Rupert Bear and Bagpuss. And bringing Kent bang up to date. 2011 sees the opening of the Turner Contemporary art gallery opening in Margate.
Kent also has the significant title as The Garden of England, going back hundreds of years to the time of Henry V111 but is equally valid today with its enviable produce on offer;- wines, beers, ciders, farmers markets, orchards as well as a huge choice of restaurants where this produce can be tasted.
So take time to make the most of your visit here- there is much to be savoured, enjoyed and experienced!
